Biography

Harold Aspden (b. 1927) is a retired British author, theoretical physicist, electrical engineer, and inventor from Southampton, Hampshire, England. He is an outspoken critic of Einstein's Theory of Relativity, and has proposed a whole new concept of Physics based on a dynamic Aether fluid crystal structure permeating all space: the energy source that regulates quantum activity, constantly framing our whole physical universe, and that accounts for the creation of matter.

He is the author of a number of books, most notably Physics without Einstein (1969; 2005), The Physics of Creation (2003) and Creation: The Physical Truth (2006). He is also author of a number of papers published in notable peer-review journals (Journal of Applied Physics [1952], Lettere al Nuovo Cimento [Europhysics Letters], Physics Today, etc.) and in alternative non-mainstream journals (Hadronic Journal, Physics Essays, etc.).

His academic career was conducted at the following institutions: Manchester (B.Sc., 1945-1948), Trinity College, Cambridge (Ph.D., 1950-1953) and Southampton (Visiting Senior Research Fellow, 1983-1992). He was the director in charge of IBM's European Patent Operations from 1963 to 1983. He is also member of the British Institute of Physics.

Description

Relativity is presently on trial.  If Einstein's theory cannot be sustained there is no recognized alternative.  This book provides not only an alternative, but a comprehensive unification of all physics.  It is based upon a straightforward confrontation with the anomalies in accepted electromagnetic theory.  These undisputed inconsistencies cannot be ignored if modern science is to progress.  What is offered here is not a new theory, but a reconciliation of existing theories.  The starting point of this work was not a lofty-minded attempt to overthrow Relativity or explain gravitation.  It was a desire to understand more about the nature of ferromagnetism.  However, what emerged provided physical concpets embracing fundamental magnetism from its atomic environment to the cosmos.  Gravitation is explained and is supported by the derivation of G in terms of the properties of the electron.  Elementary particles are explained and there is support from the exact quantitative assessment of their spin magnetic moments.  Wave mechanics are explained and there is support from the quantitative evaluation of the Fine Structure Constant.  Atomic structure is explained and is supported by quantitative analysis of nuclear binding energy.  The evaluation of the binding energy of the deuteron is particularly revealing.  It wil be shown that Einstein's theory is unnecessary. - From the Foreword

Description

"The old foundations of scientific thought are becoming unintelligible. Time, space, matter, material, ether, electricity, mechanism, organism, configuration, structure, pattern, function, all require reinterpretation. What is the sense of talking about a mechanical explanation when you do not know what you mean by mechanics? The paradox is now fully established that the utmost abstractions are the true weapons with which to control our thought of concrete fact." Alfred North Whitehead, Science and the Modern Word (1925).

Surely the weapons are not needed to control belief in what is true in Nature. Abstraction can surely have no lasting place in science. Physicists have had rather more to assimilate than has been possible and have lapsed a little into a world of abstraction. Whitehead must be wrong. The old foundations of scientific thought were intelligible to their creators. To say that they were becoming unintelligible merely implies developing weaknesses in the minds of later generations of scientists...

A mathematical analysis is provided in the author's book Physics Without Einstein, but this new work goes beyond the scope of that book by incorporating the results of further research and exposing some weaknesses in existing theories. A solution to the mysteries of the creation of the solar system is an important original feature presented in this work. It is anticipated that the evidence provided will convince the reader that the ever-present aether deserves his attention, but if the reader is left with doubts it is hoped that this book will stimulate him to voice them and top seek to resolve them constructively. The true form of Nature is already set. It needs imagination and analysis and a will to defend as well as criticize any theories put forward, if we are to find a way to comprehend the sub-structure of Nature. In this book the author has been ready to criticize and has offered much that can be criticized, and if the reader is left with doubts he did not have before, this book will have served him well. - From the Introduction

Description

This monograph offers a full account of the nature of gravitation. It is shown to be an electrodynamic action due to the disturbance of the vacuum medium by matter. A link with the existence of elementary particles is presented. The approach is verified by the exact evaluation of the constant of gravitation G in terms of the charge-mass ratio of the electron. The masses of the muon, pion and proton are also evaluated in relation to the electron mass. - From the Preface

Description

This book supercedes the author's 1969 Einstein Without Physics and records the substantial progress of the past ten years in developing the basic theme of that work.  Simply stated, the experimental support for Einstein's theory is no proof that his philosophical nethods are valid, especially if new physics can provide a broader unified base for the same observations.  Astructured vacuum determining universal physical constants is shown in the following pages to be fully compatible with formulae derived by Einstein from his Theory of Relativity.  Creation processes on both a cosmic and an atomic scale and the many topics evident from the list on contents are embraced by this unification of fundamental physics. - From the Introduction

Description

Between 1980 and 1996 the author found that scientific periodicals were more willing to accept his papers for publication and took early retirement from IBM in 1983 expressly to become a Visiting Senior Research Fellow at Southampton University in the author's hometown in England.  The 14 papers, reproduced in A4 page size from the scientific periodicals in which they were first published, constitute the main section of the book. The front section of the book is a 68 page commentary entitled 'The Creative Vacuum'. Part II consists of fourteen papers which form the 96 page Appendix added to the text of Part I. The papers are of published record in the scientific periodicals referenced as well as in the consolidated publication Aether Science Papers, copies of which are still in print and so may be purchased from booksellers. These 14 papers are also now reproduced in these web pages.

Description

What is the physical truth about creation, and how do we develop what has been termed the 'therory of everything' to explain it?  In Creation: The Physical Truth Harold Aspden deciphers in physical terms nature's messages, as coded in the numerical values of the fundamental physical constants.  He presents and account telling us how the primary particle of matter, the proton, the nucleus of the hydrogen atom, is created, and how stars are formed, besides explaining why matter is subject to the force of gravity.  The result reveals evidence that challenges many astrophysical notions.  It warrants attention as it may well reveal how to bring that omnipresent energy source into the realm of technology at a time when it is most needed.  This is important to us all, because it is only by understanding how the forces of nature generate a state of spin in the aether that we will have the scope for seeing how to extract its energy. - From the cover

Abstract:

I first heard of Robert Adams and his motor at a mountain retreat west of Denver, Colorado during the days just before a New Energy Symposium. That was in April 1993. A benefactor [Bill & Lynda Beierwalts] interested in knowing the truths about "free energy" and its potential for solving the world's pollution problems had funded the expenses of the invited speakers and the preliminary "think tank" event at that retreat. My talk was about magnetism and the aether as an energy source, but our "think tank" groups each had an allocated theme. We were expected to point the finger at the best candidate for onward investigation, from the vague information and reports we had about discoveries and claims pertaining to the new energy world.

Steady State Electrodynamic Induction ? A Feature of the General Law of Electrodynamics

Abstract:

It is argued that a truly general law of electrodynamics applicable between discrete changes in motion must take into account the process of electromagnetic induction. An induction term supplementing the Biot-Savart form of law is found to be applicable even for a steady-state interaction, such as might apply between discrete charges moving in parallel at the same speed. The author's research effort to establish the true form of law by experiment is described. The conclusion, inferred mainly from independent research by Graneau, is that the general form of electrodynamic law proposed by the author in 1960 is the true law.

Abstract:

Book Review. Publication of this book substantiates the existence of a movement to take the concept of the ?ther seriously. A plethora of models are already available, whether home brew, quasi-academic or academic. A couple of samples: a Dirac Madelung fluid with spinning tops; empty set (vacuum) pixel space associated with localized vortex elements (Lazarus in Cold Fusion, #21); ticking cellular automata with pulsating toroidal spheres or annular wave packets packed linearly with spin traverse polarization. These are hidden variable theories that postulate vortex structures (harmonic oscillators, soliton lumps, topological kinks, vortex sponges, hollow spiral filaments, etc.) situated on a typically cubic lattice where adjacent neighbors rotate/oscillate in anti-ferromagnetic-type order (opposite)...

Abstract:

The Toth-Maatian Review is a quarterly publication of the Toth-Maatian Society under the aegis of the Toth-Maatian Press. It appears in April (#1), July, October, and January... The current editor-in-chief is Harold Willis Milnes, Ph.D. The publicity editor is John J. Durie... The Review is intended to be, primarily, a medium for publication of scholarly criticisms of outstanding endeavors in the arts, sciences, medicine, law, and business. The word criticism is used here in the true sense, as the evaluation of the ideas, theories and thoughts of leading minds, whihc have contributed to civilization with artistic compositions, and have created works of significant merit that are worthy of recognition. This may be regarded as taking place in present times or having done so in the past. Criticism, in this sense, cannot fail, firtst, to shed light upon the positive aspects of such works, and, second, to correct and strengthen the basis of philosophy on which they were founded. It is hoped that the critical reviews appearing in this Journal will adhere to principles of reason acceptable to Toth, who is the god of reason, according to the ancient Egyptians, and Maat, goddess of Absolute Truth, who has ever been dear to mankind since the earliest days when cultural development began. The publication is intended to be of interest to that class of readers who are possessed of an especial competence in some particular field of specialization, but who, nevertheless, do not confine their interests to that narrow area, but care to be broadly informed in others as well. Despite its name and principle purpose, the Review is not a review publication, soley. Its pages are intended to contain articles of an original character, as well, that have scholarly merit. Authors wishing to avail themselves of the Review as a medium for publication of either critical essays or original compositions, are limited only in the requirement that their papers have scholarly merit; that the topic they have chosen to discuss shall have a general appeal to literati; and that their ideas be clearly and simply expressed in adequate literary style... "The Toth-Maatian Review, which [Harold Milnes] edited and published almost to the time of his death, was like no other journal. It had room for poetry, original short stories, essays, scientific and mathematical papers, and Harold?s own "Tales of Toth", a serialized fiction presenting in an original format his views on what is wrong with modern science. (Toth [Thoth] was the Egyptian god of wisdom and magic, Maat the goddess of truth, etc.) Here he exposed also, among other things, his own ?elementary? theory of gravitation. His editorial policy was unique. He worked without referees and, as far as I know, never denied publication to anyone who seriously sought it. The dire degradation of quality predicted by established editorial dogma never happened... Many original ideas in science originating from around the world first appeared in T.-M.R. - which will remain Harold Milnes?s monument." - From In Memoriam by T. E. Phipps, Jr. [Galilean Electrodynamics, V17, N3, p. 42 (2006)].

Abstract:

Although 20th century scientific philosophy has sought to banish the aether and outlaw it from our modern civilization, that effort has failed. The great contributions of philosophers of earlier centuries, giving us recognition of the aether, and notably Rene Descartes, live on, notwithstanding acceptance of the four-space notions of the theory of relativity. The aether remains the essential fabric of space, the canvas on which Nature has painted the glorious picture of the world and the universe we see around us. This paper will simply point to one scientific phenomenon which reveals a direct manifestation of the aether and shows us ho to tap into its power. This paper also provides a bibliographic listing of this author's 20th century discoveries concerning the aether, this being research which has been published in spite of the opposition by those who prefer to accept the virtual reality images which stem from Einstein's doctrines. The key property of the real aether isits universal rhythm, its universal time keeping, as enforced by a phase-lock between its quantum properties. This property is manifested by aether in rotation because the phase-lock involves one-way energy transfer from aether to matter in company with an electric charge induction by rotation, neither of shich feature in Einstein's vision of properties of space.

Abstract:

1979, 2nd place award. Theories of gravitation need to rely upon relativistic methodology to be acceptable to established physicists. Does the idea of pushing gravity conform with the relativistic doctrine? There is a connection. Everyone now accepts that there is validity in the formula E = Mc2 and that electrons comply with the relativistic formula for mass increase with speed. These are fundamental in relativity. However, mathematically, there is a strict connection between these two formulae. It is that accelerated mass must not radiate energy as it is all needed to sustain the increase in energy associated with the relativistic mass increase.

Thus zero net energy radiation is essential for accelerated mass. A proof of this is to be found in Professor H. A. Wilson's physics textbook "Modern Physics" published in several editions by Blackie. But we know that an accelerated electron radiates energy continuously according to the Larmor formula and have difficulty reconciling this with the fact that energy exchanges seem usually to be quantum exchanges. The answer to these conflicting aspects of accepted physics surely lies in recognizing that there is no net energy radiation from isolated charge according to the Larmor formula. There can be collective radiation from a multiplicity of charges carrying current in an antenna, but there need to be no net radiation from an isolated charge. Then we can hypothesize that there is electromagnetic energy outflow according to the Larmor formula and an exactly balancing energy inflow (say a neutrino flux) assuring that isolated charges conform with our understanding of energy radiation processes.

Abstract:

This paper extends the principles of earlier gravitational theory by which the constant of gravitation G has been deduced in terms of an electrodynamically based graviton theory. Demonstrable anomalous gravitational effects reproducible in the laboratory, which reveal the prospect of antigravitational action, are discussed. It is shown that the theory does include features which can explain observed antigravitational effects. The action points to vacuum energy fluctuations arising from graviton decay and regeneration. Recently reported weight loss accompanying gyroscopic spin in a nonprecessing mode is also explained.

Abstract:

This summary account of the author's theory of gravitation enables the reader to calculate G in terms of the electron charge-mass ratio. A classical approach to electrodynamics adapted to relate to lepton interactions yields the unifying link with the gravitational interaction. The tau-lepton is found to be a primary ?graviton? mediator. The theory has a common foundation with methods of deriving the fine-structure constant and the proton-electron mass ratio, already published in summary form.
