Letter to Members of the John Chappell Natural Philosophy Society
Dear Members,
The time has come to seek approval of the by-laws by which we, as members of the CNPS, govern ourselves. In the state of Michigan, where we are incorporated, the by-laws of a society are known as the Operating Agreement. A draft OA has already been sent to our members and to those who have indicated they wish to become members. We said we would be seeking approval of the members of the OA. The purpose of this letter is to initiate the approval process.
Here is the OA online: Operating Agreement.
As the first step toward a membership-approved OA, we ask that you review the draft OA and let us have any comments or suggestions you may have. We will then consider your submissions and, to the extent that amendments appear warranted, we will make them. A final draft will then be sent to the paying members to vote their approval or non-approval. Assuming that approval is achieved, the OA will become our governing by-laws.
October 14 – This is the date by which comments and suggestions on the present draft MA are to be submitted. Email: suggestions@naturalphilosophy.org
October 21 – This is the date by which the comments and suggestions will be considered and the final proposed OA sent to the members for approval or non-approval.
October 28 –This is the final date by which the members may vote for approval or non-approval of the proposed OA.
Assuming approval by a majority vote, we will then proceed with the process of the members electing the directors of the CNPS.
Please note that while we are open to comments and suggestions from all members and those who wish to become members of the CNPS, the actual voting on the approval or non-approval of the OA is restricted to paid-up members. We encourage all of you who have not yet become paid-up members to join us by paying the annual dues.
Please also note as that the right to vote for the directors is also limited to paid-up members.
Yours sincerely,
Duncan Shaw, on behalf of the incorporators of the CNPS:
