Dear Bill & Barry & Jim & Sam & Dave & Martin,
I have recent communications from Nick that summarize the unhappy interactions between NPA factions in 2013-2014.
The thing that distresses me most is the specter of legal action, one way or the other. That does nothing whatever to advance Science. It just wastes resources all around.
I fear that NPA may soon fracture irreparably. To forestall that, I think it is necessary that NPA hold a new election of board members at the upcoming conference, with provision for absentee e-mail voting by NPA members not attending the conference.
To help encourage such an election, I hereby submit my own resignation, effective 20 November 2014. If I am to resume my post as President, it must be by election involving all members who wish to vote. I hope the rest of the board will follow my lead.
I don’t presently plan to attend the Conference, because I am busy writing in response to a publisher’s invitation. In committing to that task, I advance Science, and maybe NPA, the most that I presently can.
Sincerely,
CKW
