Length expansion instead of length contraction

I know that the Einstein equation xi = (x – vt)/sqrt(1 – v2/c2) is wrong because of the following 2 reasons : 1) It has been derived by using normalization. 2) It mistreats the average intercept length of a ray of light travelling along the x axis as the x co-ordinate of the position of a point with respect to the inner system. I also know that the equation has been assumed to be correct for almost a century and has been considered the equation for length contraction. But now I find that even if that equation is assumed correct, it would imply length expansion instead of length contraction. My explanation for this is given below: The original length of the inner system is (x – vt). The value of sqrt( 1 – v2/c2) is less than 1. So dividing (x – vt) by sqrt( 1 – v2/c2) will produce a value greater than (x – vt) instead of a value less than (x – vt). Then why that equation been considered the equation for length contraction instead of length expansion?
